Health Gurantee for Hereditary Conditions:
At Katons Labradors, our dogs our screened for heriditary health issues such as hip displasia, EIC, and PRA.
Hip/Elbow Dysplasia and Eye Disorders
1. Hip/Elbow Dysplasia:
There are many factors can contribute to hip dysplasia so we require that the dog be between 24-26 months of age at the
time the hips are x-rayed for hip displasia. All x-rays must be submitted to the Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals (OFA) for final determination. For our records, we require a copy
of all veterinary records of the dog, together with a copy of the diagnosis, x-rays and OFA
report, no later than 14 days after diagnosis. Results are obtained approimately 3 weeks from the OFA after submittal of the x-rays.
2. Eye Guarantee: If your dog is less than 26 months of age, has been examined by a
certified veterinary ophthalmologist and the diagnosis is determined to be Progressive
Retinal Atrophy/Degeneration (PRA or PRD), we require a copy of all veterinary records of
the dog, together with a copy of the ophthalmologist report, no later than 14-days after
diagnosis. Our dogs are screened for PRA via a DNA test to determine the health of their eyes.
We ask that you inform us as early as possible as to the possibility of disease.
With regard to a positive diagnosis in your dog, we require the following:
The dog must be registered and in the possession of the original owner (this health guarantee
is non-transferable) and;
All health records of the dog including x-rays and reports must be submitted to us within 14
days of diagnosis.
In the event your dog is diagnosed as genetically defective, we require the following:
• Proof of spaying or neutering performed by a certified veterinarian. I don't believe in returning ownership as by the time the dog reaches two years old, I realize they are already part of the family.
Replacement Procedure
Although we sincerely expect that your dog will remain healthy and disease free, we offer the following
replacement policy for hip/elbow dysplasia and PRA/PRD only, as described above:
You may select a new puppy from our first available litter as a guaranteed replacement.
NO dog will be guaranteed that has been used for breeding and is still with the original owner.
